Commercial buildings also have their own French environmental certification (also valid internationally). Based on feedback from a previous standard, Certivéa created the HQE Sustainable Building certification. This ambitious certification meets the needs of real estate players, both to support their commitment to sustainable projects and to align with the objectives of the European Taxonomy and ESG criteria.
A certification adapted to the variety of tertiary sectors:
HQE BD certification allows for great flexibility because it can be adapted to any commercial building, from office buildings to schools, or commercial or industrial buildings. It also follows a process that supports the building throughout its life: construction, renovation, and operation.
The certification framework is based on 4 main pillars and 22 themes, proposing requirements with different rating levels, thus making it possible to adapt to the project and highlight the environmental and societal objectives of the project owner and its partners.
Another certification exists in parallel, the HQE building, on 3 pillars and 15 themes, to allow all stakeholders to discover the environmental approach and for any project to have an environmental ambition.
Economic performance: Cost control (construction, renovation and anticipation of operations), integration into the local economy
Quality of life: Sanitary quality of spaces (water, air, electromagnetic waves) but also user comfort (acoustics, view, hygrothermal). Ease of use for all: accessibility, local services.
Respect for the environment: Limiting the use of resources (energy, water) and reducing impacts (waste, carbon). Design optimization: adaptability to change, reflection on materials (LCA), impact and space left for biodiversity.
Responsible management: Governance, Project adaptability, Construction site, Commissioning

A structured certification process
Whether it's HQE BD or HQE B, in construction or renovation, the certification process includes audit phases, allowing each major phase of the project to be validated. The auditor is a third party, commissioned by Certivéa, whose goal is to verify the proper implementation of the certification process, the consistency between environmental ambitions and the implementations on the project.
An audit typically takes place over two days, during which each pillar and theme is explored. These discussion periods highlight the teamwork of the project owner, the project manager, and all the specialists working on the project.
This flexible and organic certification offers numerous possibilities to real estate professionals. It is often necessary to involve a partner responsible for deciphering each individual's needs and translating them into the HQE environmental approach, as well as helping to carry these ambitions forward throughout the project.
The HQE B / HQE BD certification can be supplemented by environmental and energy labels
These allow you to highlight a specific theme or access a state label. The additional labels chosen will also be audited by a third party commissioned by Certivéa.
